2025 Rates

We have been fortunate to keep retail residential rates steady over the last 11 years. In November, NPPD’s board of directors approved a two percent increase beginning January of 2025. What does this mean for you?

View the short video and FAQ’s listed below which explain what is driving the increase, how rates are set and what it means for you, our customer.

Are NPPD's retail rates increasing for 2025?

Yes. After 11 years of no overall retail base rate increases, NPPD’s board of directors approved an overall 2% retail rate increase for 2025. The new rates will be effective on Jan. 1, 2025.

Why are retail rates increasing?

NPPD has not raised retail base rates in 11 years. As we enter 2025, an increase is needed to help offset increasing cost pressures related to inflation, supply chain constraints, material cost increases, and fleet and facility costs.

How much of an increase will the average customer pay for electricity in 2025?

The average residential retail customer uses roughly 1,000 kilowatts of electricity each month. Based on this amount, a residential customer would experience an increase of approximately $3.25 per month, or less than the average cost of a donut and a cup of coffee.

How do these rates compare to other utilities?

NPPD retail rates remain extremely competitive with other electric utility rates across the region and nation. NPPD retail electric rates are approximately 25% below the average electric rates for other utilities in Nebraska, 34% below the West North Central Region which includes Nebraska and six surrounding states, and 45% below the average electric rates for the nation.
