Save Money. Energy. Resources.
NPPD is installing new “smart” meters in our service area. Smart meters allow utilities to charge different prices at different times of the day to more accurately reflect the cost of providing electricity. Access to these meters also makes it easier for NPPD to offer a different pricing option known as Time-of-Use (TOU) rates.
TOU rates provide customers with the potential to save money by shifting electricity usage away from higher cost “on-peak” hours to lower-cost “off-peak” hours. These hours are predetermined by the utility and vary based on the time of day, the day of the week, and the season. Efforts to reduce electricity usage during peak times allow NPPD to ultimately pass on those cost savings to customers.
To evaluate the feasibility of this new rate, NPPD is currently recruiting residential and commercial customers in Chadron, Milford, and Plattsmouth to participate in an 11-month EnergyWiseSM Pricing Pilot Program. NPPD’s Board approved the program and associated TOU rate schedules at its July meeting. Customers who will benefit most from this program will be those who are willing to shift a majority of their electricity usage to off peak hours.
The program will begin in November 2009 and run through October 2010. Program start and end dates for individual customers will vary based on their November meter read/billing cycle date. If you are an NPPD retail residential or small commercial customer and you reside or operate your business in one of these three communities and would like to participate in the program, visit the EnergyWiseSM Pricing Pilot Program link on this website.
